Agility is one of the fastest growing dog sports on the planet, requiring a fast but agile dog and handler that have constant engagement throughout the carrying courses.

Drive is a big component of competitive agility, so naturally we work with quite a few people who compete but are looking for the edge, which drive can bring. We also work with a lot of dogs that have developed behaviour problems through drive overflow, meaning they aren’t getting enough drive satisfaction in their daily lives and have established undesirable behaviours under this reward pressure.

Behaviours such as barking, digging, chewing escaping and even aggression can arise out of dog not getting enough mental (drive) stimulation.

At times it is hard to totally extinguish these behaviours unless the root cause is addressed. Agility can be a perfect outlet for these dogs that need it. We have witnessed the most problematic of dogs make a complete turnaround when they simply start to lead a full life.

Two problems we have always faced are: -

1. When we run a drive program on a dog, the dog eventually migrates back into the club environment. This at times can be a challenge not for the dog but the handler. There are so many training methods out there that when our clients end up working near another trainer that may not be familiar with our work, they get confusing and conflicting advice. This has always been something that we have struggled with as we don’t have a group they can train with.

2. When we have been rehabilitating a dog and the owner feels agility would be a great outlet, there is the concern again that the trainers may not be up to speed with the program we have set or the tools used, or the group environment can be daunting for the handler all at once.
We have been long looking for a solution to these problems and early this year we started moving toward the answer.

Vickie and Steve met when Steve was working with a good friend of Vickie’s, Vickie booked a lesson with Steve and it was during this (long) lesson that Steve discovered a great passion in Vickie for training her dogs and other peoples dogs too. Her thoughts and ideas are very much along the same lines as Steve’s and  we thought would fit very well into our K9 Pro Team.

We wanted more than to add another staff member though, we felt Agility deserved its own recognition, for the great sport it is. We wanted to offer services to our clients that was different than what is being offered elsewhere, we wanted people to Expect Results and get them!
