Loose Leash Walking Distance Learning

(correspondance) Program

This Package is under re design.

See our news release here

Our Distance Learning Package on Loose Leash Walking is very popular; there is a distinct set of techniques that need to be applied to get any dog to walk with the owner on a loose leash happily. Steve has trained so many dogs in these techniques that he can teach just about anyone to do this with their dog, via this program.

The program starts with you filling out a simple questionnaire; all of our DLPs start this way. This gives Steve an idea of what motivates your dog to pull and subtle pieces of information about your dogs’ temperament. With this information he can assess what is needed to get you the results you need and write them into the program. When we couple this with the feedback from you and program tuning adjustments from Steve, you, like everyone else that had completed this program, will have your dog walking on a loose leash.

The training style used is a balanced formula of reward/correction, you have to read into our program to get a true grasp of our style of corrections, these are set out to detune your dog to the distractions not to compete with distractions.

We are sure that you, just like everyone else that has completed this program will be delighted with the techniques you are shown plus the results you will get.

The program has been re written time and time again to simply the instructions down to a level in which the novice can easily understand and complete.

Some people will look at this program and decide to try one more method or tool, please re think the chopping and changing from method to method and tool to tool, this only serves to teach your dog that you will quit before he will and make him resistant to training.

Program runs over 4 - 6 weeks.

Our 12 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rocky, is an absolute pleasure and a challenge. He is pure to the definition of the breed – loyal, protective, loving and independent (stubborn).

Rocky went through Puppy Classes and Basic Obedience however he was an enthusiastic puller on the lead during walks. After researching and reading a few threads on the Dogzonline forum I cam across the K9Pro web site. I was drawn to the LLW DLP. I was sceptical but it was evident that k9Pro new their stuff. The investment was reasonable as I had spent more on head collars and harness’ all to no avail.

When commencing the LLW program I was again a little sceptical because it seemed simple. In fact it was simple, and it simply worked.

Rocky used to control the walk and equipment like head collars were a band aid solution as it dealt with the symptom without addressing the root cause.  The LLW addresses the problem, taking charge and controlling the walk and giving Rocky clear direction to set him up to succeed. It started with step by step instruction in an environment of little distraction.

Now, living in inner suburban Melbourne on the fringe of the CBD, distractions await the minute we leave our door step. Cars, bikes, trams, joggers, street cafes, dogs everywhere and those pidgeons that ignite Rocky’s strong prey drive.  However this is where we live and this is where Rocky has his morning and evening walks. We started our lesson in a nearby secluded car park under minimal distraction and within one half hour session I had Rocky walking on a loose leash. The LLW instruction is clear, concise and consistent; all that‘s required is to follow those instructions. The corner stone to success is the e-mail feedback by k9Pro on all the queries and difficulties we encountered over approximately a month.

I also read about the concept of TOT (Triangle of Temptation) and incorporated this into Rocky’s daily meal routine. This taught him to focus on me. The connection and respect that my dog displayed towards me with this simple exercise elevated the human animal bond to another level. This became evident on Rocky’s focus during our walks; it also strengthened his impulse control when walking toward other dogs. Rocky is very social, loves dogs and used to lunge and pull to go and say hello. The LLW Program has provided further benefits for us, Rocky gets longer walks because it is now a pleasure, the positive discipline is building his character and the bond between us is flourishing. Unexpectedly it also improves other aspects such as recall off the lead at the park. I have come to the realisation that walking on a loose leash is not the end game, it is the foundation to improve and build upon the training interaction with Rocky. I was pleasantly surprised that my own confidence and leadership skills improved as Rocky improved.

Rocky can still be a challenge especially when those pidgeons on the foot path start to flutter, he looks up at me and his eyes are telling me that he would love a good chase. The program is a great guide, persistence, getting out there and practicing the concept will guarantees success. Thanks Steve, I am seriously considering the Training in Drive DLP next.

Kind regards

Marc

  2. Seamless program

Posted by David on 21st Oct 2010

Hi Steve, I am compelled to write you regarding our progress so far in your Loose Leash program, we received the program by email on Friday night and had a read, I spoke to my wife and we both agreed that it appeared extremely simple. Early next morning I leashed up Jack and followed your steps to the letter.

I have to say that I was giggling like an idiot when it worked like magic!

Now I never thought Jack was a stupid dog, but we had tackled this problem with our local obedience club and a private trainer XXXX XXXXXX (name withheld) and after 6 weeks, he was not 1% better.

After 6 minutes he was walking like an angel, I didn’t have to yank his head off, I wasn’t stressed and it was just as easy for my wife to do too.

I honestly am slightly uncomfortable with just how well it worked and how seamlessly, I am a bit overwhelmed!
    David
